Employees from Yorkshire-based nursery, Johnsons Nurseries, have together walked nearly 7,000 miles, raising over £1k for Kidney Research UK.

As part of Move More April, an annual celebration to encourage people to move more in their day-to-day lives, Johnsons Nurseries employees involved in the challenge raised £1,046 for the UK charity, surpassing its original £500 target.

The team of 40 pledged to walk 100 miles each during the month of April, and ultimately ended up walking 6,934 miles in 30 days.

The winning team, Daffodil, walked over 2,000 miles between them. The team was composed of Terry Cooper, Chris Edgar, Rob Forrester, Steve Morton, Vicky Newell, Chris Pitwood, EllieRichardson, Matthew Swales and Mark Weatherill.

All top five employees walked over 300 miles each, with Martyn Osbourne, senior nursery supervisor, walking 618 miles in total.

Sales estimator, Hannah Reilly, who played a key role in organising this year’s challenge, says it has been “overwhelming to see the incredible effort” of the team.

“Well done to all those who took part.”

This is the third walking challenge the Yorkshire nursery, who also achieved its third consecutive Plant Healthy accreditation in November, has organised during Move More April, having previously raised £736 for Cancer Research in 2022 and £550 for Perennials in 2023.

This Yorkshire nursery was also accredited Plant Healthy for its third year running back in November.
