Plans for a £150m regeneration of two council estates in north London move forward following securing approval.
Joyce Avenue and Snell’s Park estate in Upper Edmonton have secured planning approval from Enfield Council planning committee to be transformed into a new neighbourhood.
The council currently aims to sign a principal contractor this coming autumn for the development of over 2000 residential homes, a community centre, nursery, energy centre parks and landscaping.
Plans include increased canopy cover, improved access to green space and additional public spaces to encourage community engagement and outdoor activity.
Enfield Council leader Nesil Caliskan comments on project, saying:
“As well as much needed homes, the new estate will become a well-connected neighbourhood, helping to reduce crime and anti-social behaviour, and will create new jobs and reinvigorate the high street, boosting the local economy.”
Of the 2,028 residential homes planned, Caliskan says “more than half” will be “affordable, for either social rent or shared ownership.”
Cllr Ayten Guzel, cabinet member for housing, adds that this north London project is a “pivotal moment for Enfield and for the people of Upper Edmonton.”
