A two-day programme on the transformative power of lighting in urban and landscape design will be taking place at FutureScape 2024 in October.

Expert Ray Molony – editor of Designing Lighting Global magazine – has put together a series of talks in the Lighting Theatre in partnership with Lightpro that shine a spotlight on the importance of these products.

Industry experts will share their insights, experiences and strategies for using light to elevate public spaces and support community interaction while navigating regulatory and technical challenges.

On the first day, Laura Čižauskaitė, senior associate at Lichtvision and leader of the lighting design effort at The Ark Hammersmith, will share the valuable insights into the decisions that resulted in a stunning outcome.

BDP’s director of lighting, Tom Niven, will then walk the audience through the ambitious Barclays Campus scheme in Glasgow, and experienced lighting consultant Neil Skinner of SKR Lighting Design is set to explain how to stay on the right side of planners.

A panel on meeting the challenge of collaboration closes the day. Kyle Gamble, managing director of KG Electrical Contractors, Sam Cox, director at Landscapeplus, and Inessa Lomas, a senior designer at Arup, will discuss how the project team can best work together to achieve the best result.

Magdalena Gomez, a designer specialising in landscapes and lighting, opens the second day with her experiences of creating successful community lighting projects. Award-winning lighting designer Michael Grubb follows this with the key approaches he takes when tackling high profile exterior lighting projects. Landscapeplus’ Sam Cox will then explain how the right choice of fitting and location has made real-life residential projects a success.

The final talk is an impressive case study from Speirs Major Light Architecture partner Carrie Donahue. She will the clever ways that lighting was used in the Manhattan West public realm in New York.
