British supermarket puts forward plans to transform old brownfield site

Supermarket chain Sainsburys and property developer Ballymore submits plans to transform former brownfield site within the Kensal Canalside Opportunity Area.

Plans for Project Flourish outline the delivery of 3.68ha of publicly accessible open spaces, including two new public parks, as well as the delivery of 1.5ha of green roofscape.

Spacehub Design, responsible for the project’s landscaping, says the plans put forward will “dramatically increase biodiversity and the number of natural habitats in the area.”

With a calculated 650% increase in biodiverse habitat value, this includes the planting of over 750 new trees across the site.

The proposed plans also include the delivery of new homes, more retail spaces- including a new Siansbury’s store and café- and more employment opportunities.

Pending planning permission, development of the on site infrastructure looks to start early 2026.
