His Majesty King Charles III has been announced as the next Patron of the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) ahead of his visit to the RHS Chelsea Flower Show this coming Monday.

Keith Weed CBE, president of the RHS, says the gardening and environmental charity is “honoured” to have His Majesty as its next Royal Patron.

Their Majesties The King and Queen will be in attendance at this year’s RHS Chelsea Flower Show on Monday 20 May, to meet the growers, designers and horticulturists exhibiting.

During their visit, Their Majesties will visit The RHS No Adults Allowed Garden, the first garden in the show’s history to be designed by children, with the help of co-designer and RHS medal winner, Harry Holding.

Other gardens that will Be visited include the Moroto no IE Garden, designed by Kazuyuki Ishihara, and The Addleshaw Goddard Junglette Garden, designed by Mike McMahon and Jewlsy Matthews.

Last year Their Majesties visited RHS Chelsea just weeks after the Coronation, this year the two will be accompanied by The Duke and Duchess of Gloucester.

Clare Matterson CBE, RHS director general, says: “We are all hugely looking forward to welcoming them to the world famous event to enjoy the spectacular displays that everyone has worked tirelessly to create, to meet the many wonderful charities involved with the event.”

The Late Queen Elizabeth II was previously Patron of the RHS. The Queen became Patron in 1952, and retained this title for 10 years, visiting the Show nearly every year of her Reign.
