Award-winning landscaping provider idverde has been re-awarded the ground maintenance contract for the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park and the surrounding public realm, 11 years on from the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
The London Legacy Development Corporation has renewed idverde’s existing ten-year contract for an additional eight years, following a procurement process.
The £24m renewal involves continued large scale horticulture and grounds maintenance across the 560 acres, facilities management, and volunteering programme, in support of the Park’s continued future as a six million people per year tourist attraction and nature and wildlife conservation.
The eight-year contract will see idverde establish new planted areas such as the London Blossom Garden, a succession of apprenticeships and job opportunities, and the introduction of cleaner equipment, including robotic mowers.
UK CEO of idverde Kristian Lennard, says: “Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park is not like other parks. It fulfils a range of needs from a place of sanctuary for visitors, to high-profile events. It is home to residents and an increasing number of animal, bird and plant life.
“We are delighted LLDC has recognised the passion and opportunity we want to bring to this important area of London. Breathing life into our cities and suburbs, creating places where people and nature can thrive together, is key to our ambition.”
Idverde and the London Legacy Development Corporation have a 10-year standing history, which has seen the restoration of nature and increased biodiversity and wildlife in the Park.
The scope of this contract covers the external areas of the Park, including infrastructure and parkland and key buildings, including Stratford Waterfront and the Stadium Island areas, with future remit extension a possibility.
