Ashleigh Aylett secures the win for Young Designer of the Year at RHS Flower Show Tatton Park with her design that highlights the dramatic loss of trees across England.
Aylett, who is also a 2023 Pro Landscaper 30 Under 30 winner, partnered with the Woodland Trust to create The Woodland Trust: 49% Garden for this year’s RHS Tatton Park.
The design highlights the efforts made by the charity to address the loss of nearly half of Britain’s trees outside of woodland settings.

Efforts made by the charity include the planting of UK grown trees, as well as diversifying the species being planted to build future resilience.
It is estimated that England has lost 49% of its trees (outside of woods), between 1850 and present day.
In her recent catch-up with Pro Landscaper, Aylett said her goal was to “help spread the message on the decline of trees within [our] landscape.”
“The garden seeks to capture the romantic essence of the English countryside. By evoking the nostalgia of a perfect day outdoors, it aims to draw the public outdoors and open their eyes to the importance of preserving trees outside woods, a key feature of our countryside.”
Aylett’s RHS Tatton debut that secured her the Young Designer of the Year Award, also scooped a Gold Medal and the award for Best Construction for a Young Designer.
