Home renovation and design company, Houzz, identifies the top emerging summer design trends for the year.
With this season’s trends reflecting a desire to make the most out of the garden, with the expansion of living areas into the garden, as well as bringing nature inside through forestry colour pallets.
Wellness retreats
The design company is seeing a spike in wellness oriented features, with ‘yoga room’ and ‘sauna’ searches rising in the first quarter of the year. Search increases are also being seen for ‘indoor swimming pool’, a trend rising in popularity, likely due to the uprise in arid weather conditions of late.

Going green
According to Houzz’s summer design trends, one in six renovating homeowners are opting for green cabinetry (16%). Searches for the colour green have also climbed for living rooms, bathroom tiles, bathrooms and walls, when compared to last year.
Garden structures
Homeowners’ are looking to maximise their outdoor spaces with searches for ‘raised beds’ and ‘green houses’ growing by nearly double, respectively. The term ‘outdoor kitchens’ has also seen search traffic growth.

Impressionable thresholds
Kerb appeal is taking centre stage with an uptake in searches for ‘bungalow front porch’ and ‘front porch’, suggesting particular attention to their homes first impression.
Rustic farmhouse style
Homeowners seem inspired to create idyllic outdoor spaces this summer, with searches for ‘roses’ rising by nearly six times over, and ‘country cottage gardens’ going up by over double.
