In an era defined by environmental consciousness and regulatory shifts, the construction industry finds itself at a crossroads. The choice of materials, once primarily driven by cost and availability, now incorporates considerations of safety, energy efficiency, and environmental impact. Among the materials emerging as a frontrunner in this evolving landscape is porcelain.
Porcelain, long admired for its sleek finish, offers far more than simple aesthetic appeal. Its remarkable durability is matched by outstanding thermal performance. Unlike traditional materials, porcelain stores heat within its structure, releasing it slowly and uniformly. This characteristic not only ensures comfortable indoor temperatures but also translates to significant energy savings over time, positioning porcelain as a cornerstone of energy-efficient construction materials. The same is true for Vitrified Composite®, another extruded and fired material.
Beyond their thermal properties, both boast eco-friendly manufacturing processes. Extracted from widely available clay, water, and feldspar or quartz, their production entails less energy-intensive processes compared to other materials. Furthermore, modern manufacturing techniques deployed incorporate thermal energy recovery systems, minimising environmental impact.
RYNO’s Porcelain and Vitrified Composite range of finishes are compliant with latest industry standards and manufactured with eco-awareness in mind. Both materials boast unparalleled durability, aesthetic versatility, and are Class A1 fire rated.
Protecting Your Investment: Mitigating Wind Uplift
As construction professionals strive to future-proof buildings against regulatory shifts, mitigating risks such as wind uplift becomes paramount. Wind uplift, a phenomenon where strong winds create negative pressure on horizontal surfaces, poses a significant threat to building exteriors, including balconies and terraces. Without proper safeguards, wind uplift can lead to costly damages and compromise safety.
Recognising the importance of safeguarding beautiful finishes, RYNO has introduced innovative solutions to mitigate wind uplift across its porcelain paving and decking systems. Through a combination of mechanical fixings and retrofit clips, RYNO ensures surfaces remain securely anchored, even in the face of adverse weather conditions.
Both Porcelain Paving and Vitrified Composite Decking Systems can be secured against strong winds with suitable hidden and visual fixings.
The RYNO® TerraSmart® Rail Paving System for example, can be supplied with a Hidden Wind Uplift Fixing – a spring-loaded clamp assembly that slides into the rails, slots into kerfed tiles, and acts as a 4mm spacer – or a Visual Wind Uplift Fixing – a discreet flange-headed screw and washer that screws into the rails. Raised paving areas that have been laid in the past, can be secured with the Retrofit Wind Uplift Clip, without the need to lift or move any of the pavers.
The RYNO® TerraSmart® Vitrified Composite® Decking System is wind-uplift-proof by design, thanks to its edge and VC T-clips, which fix the boards to the joists securing the entire surface in place, whatever the weather.
