Today marks Angus Lindsay’s last day as group head of asset and fleet management with green service provider idverde.

For the last 13 years, Angus has been instrumental in the company. He first joined English Landscapes – which later became known as The Landscape Group – in 2005, being part of the team to build the company to become more efficient and profitable to the point where it was an attractive acquisition for European company idverde in 2015.

An agricultural engineer by trade, Angus first joined the landscaping industry when he returned from working abroad in the Middle East and Africa, where his roles had included working as agricultural maintenance technician for the Egyptian Ministry of Agriculture through VSO, a field operations manager for Afcott Nigeria and a contract instructor for Massey Ferguson in the Yemen.

Angus joined Glendale as its machinery manager in 1994 and worked there for a decade before taking on a role as national account manager for the north with Industrial Power Units, selling Ferris and Wright Machinery. After 18 months, he returned to Glendale for a further four years as company engineer.

Throughout his career, Angus has seen the introduction of Compulsory Competitive Tendering (CCT) for local authorities, the development of alternative fuels and the growing appreciation for outdoor spaces since the start of the pandemic. He has covered each of these in his articles for Pro Landscaper, having written more than 100 columns for the magazine.

In his final column, to be published in the January issue at the start of 2023, Angus says: “After nearly three decades in the industry, I have decided to take some time out to review my future. Not an easy decision, but one that had to be made. Thirty non-stop years managing the machinery and vehicles for two of the UK’s largest grounds maintenance contractors, albeit with a period of time spent on the dark side within machinery supply, has been a hell of a journey, but it is now time to step off the bus before it and I run out of stops.”
